Days between dates calculator
| Detail | Value |
|---|
Client-side only. Calendar dates in your local timezone, not UTC midnight tricks. Business days skip Saturdays and Sundays only; public holidays are not removed. Not legal, payroll, or travel advice.
Same two dates, three different answers
People type one pair of dates and expect one number. In practice the question usually means one of three jobs. Walk the pair 1 Jan 2026 to 15 Jan 2026:
| Job | Mode | Result | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hotel nights / interest day-count | Exclusive | 14 | Nights between check-in and check-out |
| Leave that includes both ends | Inclusive | 15 | 1st through 15th both count |
| Weekday delivery window | Business days | 11 | Mon-Fri only across that span (inclusive walk) |
If someone asks "how many days between A and B" without saying inclusive or exclusive, ask which job they mean before you paste a number into a contract or ticket.
Worked leap-year edge: Feb 2024 vs Feb 2025
Calendar math has to respect February 29. Exclusive count from 1 Feb to 1 Mar:
| Year | Exclusive days | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 (leap) | 29 | Feb has 29 days; span includes the 29th night |
| 2025 (common) | 28 | Feb has 28 days |
This page builds dates from year, month, and day in your local calendar. It does not treat the inputs as UTC midnight timestamps, which is how some language APIs silently shift a date by one day near timezone boundaries.
What business days deliberately ignore
- Public holidays (India, US, or otherwise). There is no holiday table here.
- Half-days, shift calendars, and regional weekends (Fri-Sat).
- Clock time, DST jumps, and "working hours." Only whole calendar dates matter.
Business mode is a weekday filter for rough SLA math. For payroll leave or court deadlines, use the calendar your employer or counsel publishes. Related: Unix timestamp converter for epoch seconds, and the queued age calculator when you need years/months/days from a birth date.
FAQ
What is the difference between exclusive and inclusive day counts?
Exclusive (end minus start) counts the nights between the dates, the common span for hotel stays and interest day-counts. Inclusive adds one so both endpoints count, which matches leave forms that include the start and end dates. Same pair of calendar dates, different job.
How does business days mode work?
Business days mode walks each calendar day from start through end (inclusive of both when start is on or before end) and counts Monday through Friday only. Saturdays and Sundays are skipped. Public holidays are not subtracted; enter adjusted dates if you need a holiday calendar.
Does this handle leap years?
Yes. Dates are treated as local calendar dates (year, month, day). February 29 exists only in leap years, and spans that cross Feb 29 include that day in the calendar-day count.
Are my dates uploaded?
No. Start date, end date, mode, and the math stay in this browser tab. Nothing is sent to ToolPetal.
Is this an age calculator?
No. This page answers how many days (or weekdays) sit between two dates. It does not convert a birth date into years, months, and days of age. An age calculator is queued separately on ToolPetal.
