Drag the yellow handles, or drag the middle to slide. Arrow keys move 0.1 s, Shift + arrow 1 s.
Make it sound right
Optional. Volume and fades show up once a file is loaded.
A built-in limiter holds the peaks down, so boosting will not clip.
Fades
Fine-tune fade length, speed, pitch
Changes speed without changing the pitch. Faster also fits more of your clip into 5 seconds.
Download your sound
You'll get an MP3 that fits Discord's soundboard.
Discord sound names are 2 to 32 characters. We use it for the file name too.
Choose a file first.
- On desktop or in the browser, join a voice channel and open the Soundboard.
- Press Add Sound and pick the MP3 you downloaded.
- Give it a name and an emoji, then upload.
Runs in your browser with LAME 3.100 for MP3 (LGPL: license and build notes, source code) and SoundTouch 2.3.3 for speed and pitch (LGPL-2.1: license and build notes, source code). Nothing is uploaded.
How to make a Discord soundboard sound
- Choose a file. Any audio file, or a video (MP4, WebM, MOV) you want the sound from. The tool skips silence at the start and selects up to the first 5 seconds of sound.
- Pick the part. Press Play to hear the selection on a loop, then drag the yellow handles. The green check tells you when it fits the soundboard.
- Make it sound right. Move the Volume slider or tap Normalize loudness. Turn on Fade in or Fade out to avoid clicks. Speed and pitch are under Fine-tune.
- Download the MP3. In Discord, join a voice channel, open the soundboard, choose Add Sound (on desktop or in a browser), and upload the file.
What we measured
We tested this page on October 17, 2026 in desktop Chrome and in WebKit, the engine behind Safari, with files we generated for the test: MP3, WAV, OGG, and M4A audio, a 3 minute MP3, and a 12 second video saved as MP4, WebM, and MOV. Every export was an MP3 inside Discord's limits, and the downloaded file matched the size shown on the page each time.
- The 12 second video became a 4.95 second, 200.6 KB MP3 at 320 kbps, well under 512 KB. FFmpeg measured the finished file at 4.99 seconds.
- The 3 minute MP3 opened in 0.6 seconds in Chrome and 1.6 seconds in WebKit. Each edit made a fresh MP3 in about 0.3 seconds.
- A very quiet clip measured -41.6 LUFS. After Normalize loudness, FFmpeg's EBU R 128 meter read the MP3 at -13.9 LUFS.
- A clip that was already loud, boosted another 12 dB, came out with no clipped samples and a peak of -0.5 dB.
- Cut silence removed the 1.2 seconds of silence before a test sound and the 1.4 seconds after it.
- Speeding a 523 Hz tone up to 1.5x kept it at 523 Hz. Raising the pitch 5 semitones moved it to 698 Hz, exactly 5 semitones higher.
Times depend on your device. Phones are slower, and long videos take the longest to open.
Discord soundboard limits (checked October 17, 2026)

| Length | Up to 5 seconds (the developer docs say 5.2 seconds) | Discord blog, developer docs |
| Sound volume | Optional default volume for each sound, from 0 to 100%. It can only turn a sound down. | developer docs |
| Sound name | 2 to 32 characters, plus an optional emoji | developer docs |
| Slots per server | 8 free. 24 at Boost Level 1, 36 at Level 2, 48 at Level 3 | Soundboard guide, Server Boosting FAQ |
| Who can upload | Members with the Create Expressions permission, on desktop or in a browser | Soundboard guide |
In practice, length is the limit that matters. Even at 320 kbps, the highest MP3 quality, a 5 second clip is only about 200 KB, well under 512 KB. So this tool always exports at 320 kbps and still checks the real file size before you download. If Discord's upload panel ever shows a different limit, trust the panel.
Adding a custom emoji or sticker to go with the sound? The Discord GIF compressor fits a GIF under the 256 KB emoji or 512 KB sticker limit, and the Discord tools page lists every upload limit with its source.
Why the finished sound is clean
- Normalize loudness measures your selection the way broadcasters do (ITU-R BS.1770 loudness, with EBU R 128 gating) and sets the volume to reach -14 LUFS. Very short clips fall back to peak level.
- A look-ahead limiter catches peaks before they happen, so a big volume boost gets louder without crackling. After encoding, the tool decodes the MP3 and checks its real peak. If MP3 would push it into clipping, it lowers the limiter and encodes again.
- Every clip gets a 5 millisecond fade at both ends, even with fades off, so it never starts or stops with a click.
- Speed and pitch use SoundTouch, so you can speed up a clip without the chipmunk effect, or change the pitch without changing the length.
- MP3 encoding uses LAME, the reference MP3 encoder, at its highest quality setting.

FAQ
What are Discord's soundboard limits?
Discord's soundboard posts on its blog list an MP3 file up to 512 KB and up to 5 seconds long, which is what the upload panel asks for. Discord's developer docs give 512 KB and 5.2 seconds, and also accept Ogg through the API. We checked both on October 17, 2026.
Does this soundboard maker upload my audio?
No. The sound is decoded, edited, and encoded to MP3 inside your browser. The file never leaves your device.
Why does the clip stop at 4.95 seconds?
Every MP3 carries a few hundredths of a second of padding. Stopping the sound at 4.95 seconds keeps the finished file under 5 seconds when Discord measures it, so the upload is not refused.
Can I turn a video into a soundboard sound?
Yes. Drop in an MP4, WebM, or MOV file and the tool pulls out the audio. It works with files on your device. It cannot download from YouTube or TikTok, and Discord says you are responsible for making sure you have the right to use a sound.
How many soundboard sounds can a server have?
Discord gives every server 8 soundboard slots. Server Boosting raises that to 24 at Level 1, 36 at Level 2, and 48 at Level 3.
Will Normalize loudness make my sound too loud?
It aims for -14 LUFS, a common loudness level for streaming. A limiter holds the peaks down, and the tool decodes the finished MP3 to check that nothing clips. Quiet clips get louder and very loud clips get turned down. When you upload, Discord also lets you lower the sound's default volume.
