Discord Banner Resizer
Making a banner, start to finish
- Choose a picture or GIF. PNG, JPG, WebP and GIF all work. Drag it onto the box or paste it if that is quicker.
- Pick the banner. Profile banner is the strip at the top of your profile card (680 × 240). Server banner sits above the channel list (960 × 540, 16:9). The dashed guide shows where your avatar or the server name will cover it.
- Crop it. Fill crops the shape out of your picture: drag to move, Zoom to go closer, or use the arrow keys. Fit keeps the whole picture and leaves the edges clear. 2x sharp doubles the size for high resolution screens.
- Make the banner. Pictures update on their own; GIFs take a few seconds. Check the preview and tap Download. The steps to add it to Discord show under the result.
Discord banner sizes and rules (checked October 25, 2026)
| Banner | Discord says | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Profile banner size | At least 680 × 240 (about 17:6) | Custom Profiles |
| Profile banner file | PNG, JPG or animated GIF, under 10 MB | Custom Profiles |
| Profile banner access | Nitro only | Custom Profiles |
| Server banner size | 16:9, recommended 960 × 540; 1920 × 1080 is resized | Server Banners |
| Server banner access | Boost Level 2 for still, Level 3 for animated (Partnered servers get it without boosts) | Server Banners, Server Boosting FAQ |
| Top of a server banner | Keep the top 48 pixels simple; avoid logos and text | Server Banners |
| Animated server banner | Plays for 5 seconds when the server opens, then on hover; stays still with Reduced Motion on | Server Banners |
| Server banner file size | Not published | Server Banners |
Discord does not publish a file size cap for server banners, so this page keeps them under 10 MB, the same as profile banners. That is our own safe margin, not a Discord number. If the upload dialog in your app shows a different rule, trust the dialog.
Two test files, both banners
We ran the page's own samples through it on October 25, 2026 in desktop Chrome and checked each download for its real pixel size and byte count.
| Input | Banner out | What it took |
|---|---|---|
| JPG, 1600 × 900, 25 KB | Profile: 680 × 240 PNG, 37.9 KB Server: 960 × 540 PNG, 84.4 KB | Center crop with Fill, no compression needed |
| GIF, 360 × 203, 30 frames, 1.3 MB | Profile: 680 × 240 GIF, 1.23 MB, all 30 frames Server: 960 × 540 GIF, 2.91 MB, all 30 frames | Lossless packing only, about 1.5 and 3 seconds |
Worked example. The sample picture is 1600 × 900. A profile banner is 680 × 240, which is wider than the picture, so Fill keeps the full width and cuts a strip 1600 × 565 out of the middle (1600 divided by 680, times 240). You can drag that strip up or down to choose which part stays. For a server banner the picture is already 16:9, so nothing is cut and it is only scaled to 960 × 540.
Fill, Fit and 2x
Fill is the usual choice: the picture covers the whole banner and the edges get trimmed. Fit keeps the whole picture and leaves see-through space at the sides, which Discord fills with its own background color. Use 2x sharp when your picture is big enough; it doubles the pixels so the banner stays crisp on phones and high resolution monitors. If the page warns that the picture is being scaled up, the standard size will look cleaner.
Where this falls short
- GIF pixels are either fully see-through or fully solid, so soft shadows around a transparent GIF become a hard edge. Still pictures come out as PNG, which keeps them.
- Animated WebP and APNG files use their first frame. Convert them to GIF first if you want motion.
- Long, busy GIFs can need fewer frames to fit 10 MB. Cut them to the best few seconds with the Discord GIF compressor first.
- Previews are a close guide, not a screenshot. Discord's layout changes between desktop, browser and phone.

Questions about Discord banners
What size is a Discord banner?
A profile banner needs to be at least 680 x 240 pixels and under 10 MB, according to Discord's Custom Profiles page. A server banner should be 16:9, and Discord recommends 960 x 540; it says 1920 x 1080 also works and gets resized. This page makes either size, or a 2x version for sharper screens.
Do I need Nitro or boosts for a banner?
Profile banners need Nitro. Server banners need Boost Level 2 for a still image and Boost Level 3 for an animated GIF, unless the server is Partnered. The resizer works without either, so you can have the file ready.
Does this banner resizer upload my picture?
No. Cropping, resizing and GIF compression run inside your browser, and the picture never leaves your device.
Can I make an animated Discord banner?
Yes. Choose a GIF and tap Make banner. The page resizes every frame and keeps the file under 10 MB, trying lossless packing first, then stronger compression, fewer colors, and only then fewer frames at the same speed.
Why does Discord crop my banner?
Discord's uploader shows its own crop box sized to the banner shape. If the file is already 680 x 240 (or 960 x 540 for a server), the crop box covers the whole picture, so nothing you chose here gets cut.
Where should text go on a server banner?
Discord puts the server name over the top of the banner and says to keep the top 48 pixels simple. It also advises against logos and text, since the banner is small in the channel list. Keep anything important near the middle.
