How to convert a number to words
- Type the number. For example 1234.56. The words appear as you type.
- Pick a style. Choose the letter case, the currency, and either the thousand, million, billion system or the Indian lakh and crore system. Tick the UK style box to add "and" after hundred.

How to write a check amount in words
Write the dollars in words, then "and", then the cents as a fraction of 100, then the word dollars. For $1,234.56 that is: One thousand two hundred thirty-four and 56/100 dollars. Write $1,234.56 in the number box. Draw a line through any empty space after the words so nothing can be added. For a whole amount, write and 00/100, as in Five hundred and 00/100 dollars.

Writing rules worth knowing
Numbers from twenty-one to ninety-nine take a hyphen, like forty-two. US style leaves out "and" inside whole numbers, while UK style says one hundred and five. In the Indian system 1,00,000 is one lakh and 1,00,00,000 is one crore. For money, cents are rounded to two places, so 10.555 becomes ten dollars and fifty-six cents.

How do you write numbers in words?
Say each group of three digits with its scale word, like thousand or million, and hyphenate numbers from twenty-one to ninety-nine. 45,312 is forty-five thousand three hundred twelve.
Should I use "and" when writing numbers?
In US style, "and" is used only before cents or a fraction, as in five dollars and ten cents. In UK style it also follows hundred, as in one hundred and five. Tick the UK style box to switch.
How do I write ordinal numbers in words?
Change the last word to its ordinal form: one becomes first, two second, three third, and twenty becomes twentieth. 121 is one hundred twenty-first.
Does it support lakh and crore?
Yes. Choose Indian: lakh, crore as the number system. 1,23,45,678 becomes one crore twenty-three lakh forty-five thousand six hundred seventy-eight.
How are decimals written in words?
Plain numbers read each digit after the point, so 3.14 is three point one four. For money, the decimals become cents, rounded to two places.
