Making a timestamp, start to finish

      1. Pick the date and time. Use the picker, or the Now and +1 hour buttons. Set the time zone the event is in, for example the zone where you are hosting it.
      2. Copy a style. Each row shows the code and a live preview. F (full date and time) and R (relative, like in 2 hours) are the most popular pair for events.
      3. Paste it in Discord. It looks like plain text while you type and turns into a date when you send. Everyone sees it in their own time zone.
      4. Decode one if you need to. Paste a code someone sent, a unix time, or a Discord ID into step 3 to see the date it stands for.

      All 9 Discord timestamp styles

These are the styles in Discord's developer docs (checked October 25, 2026). Swap UNIX for the number from step 1. The examples are the docs' own, for April 20, 2021 at 16:20:30. Your readers see the same layout in their own language, so someone in the US sees 4:20 PM instead of 16:20.

      StyleCodeLooks like
      Short time<t:UNIX:t>16:20
      Medium time<t:UNIX:T>16:20:30
      Short date<t:UNIX:d>20/04/2021
      Long date<t:UNIX:D>April 20, 2021
      Long date, short time (default)<t:UNIX:f> or <t:UNIX>April 20, 2021 at 16:20
      Full date, short time<t:UNIX:F>Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at 16:20
      Short date, short time<t:UNIX:s>20/04/2021, 16:20
      Short date, medium time<t:UNIX:S>20/04/2021, 16:20:30
Relative<t:UNIX:R>4 years ago (the docs' example)

Source: Discord developer docs, timestamp styles. The s and S styles are newer than the rest; if an older Discord app shows the raw code, use f or F instead.

      Worked examples

New Year 2027 countdown. Midnight UTC on January 1, 2027 is 1,798,761,600 seconds after January 1, 1970, so the code is <t:1798761600:R>. In Los Angeles, Discord shows that as 4:00 PM on December 31, 2026 with F, and as in 2 months with R today.

When was this made? Discord IDs are snowflakes: shift the ID right by 22 bits and add Discord's epoch, 1,420,070,400,000 milliseconds (January 1, 2015). The ID from Discord's own docs, 175928847299117063, works out to 1,462,015,105,796 ms, which is April 30, 2016 at 11:18:25 UTC. Paste it into step 3 to check.

      Seconds, milliseconds and IDs

Discord timestamps use seconds. Many tools and programming languages give milliseconds, which have three extra digits; 1798761600000 pasted into a code would point to the year 58970. The decode box guesses by length: 15 digits or more is read as a Discord ID, 12 to 14 digits as milliseconds, and anything shorter as seconds. The Unix timestamp converter handles other units.

      Where this falls short

Making the rest of your server? The server icon maker, banner resizer and emoji maker make the images, and the Discord tools page lists every limit.

      Questions about Discord timestamps

How do I put a timestamp in a Discord message?

Type <t:UNIX:STYLE>, where UNIX is the time in seconds since January 1, 1970 UTC and STYLE is one letter such as F or R. Discord turns it into a date and time when you send it. This page builds the code for you: pick a date, then copy the style you want.

Will everyone see the time in their own time zone?

Yes. Discord's developer docs say timestamps display in the user's own timezone and locale. A game night set for 8 PM in New York shows as 5 PM to someone in Los Angeles and 1 AM the next day to someone in London.

What do the timestamp letters mean?

t is short time, T is time with seconds, d is short date, D is long date, f is long date with short time (the default if you leave the letter off), F adds the weekday, s is short date with short time, S is short date with seconds, and R is relative time like in 2 hours.

How do I make a countdown in Discord?

Use the R style, for example <t:1798761600:R>. Discord shows it as in 3 days, in 5 hours and so on, and keeps it updated, then switches to 2 hours ago once the time passes.

Can I find when a Discord message or account was made?

Yes. Turn on Developer Mode in Discord, right click a message, user or server and choose Copy ID, then paste the ID in the decode box. Discord IDs contain their creation time, so the page reads it out.

Why does my timestamp show the wrong time?

The usual cause is milliseconds instead of seconds: Discord wants 10 digits for current dates, not 13. The other is picking the time in the wrong time zone. Check the zone next to the date picker before you copy the code.
