How to use an invisible character
- Pick a character. Start with Hangul Filler (U+3164) for a blank name. The dashed box next to each one shows how wide it is.
- Press Copy. Raise "How many to copy" if you need a longer blank, for example 3 for a wider gap.
- Paste it into the name, message or bio field and save. If the app says the field is empty or invalid, try the next character on the list.
Which character to try on each platform
| Where | Try first | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Discord name or nickname | Hangul Filler | Discord may refuse a name made only of invisible characters. If it does, add a visible character such as a dot. |
| Discord message | Braille Blank | A message of only spaces is not sent. A Braille Blank has width and is not a space, so it usually goes through. |
| WhatsApp name or message | Braille Blank or Hangul Filler | Paste one character. A zero width space alone is often treated as empty. |
| Instagram or TikTok bio | Braille Blank | Put one on an empty line to keep a blank line between paragraphs. |
| Steam profile name | Hangul Filler | Steam may show a box if the font has no glyph for it. Check the profile after saving. |
| Games (Fortnite, Among Us and others) | Hangul Filler | Many games only allow letters and numbers, or limit how often you can change your name. Check the game rules before you spend a name change. |
These are starting points, not guarantees. We have not tested every app, and platforms change their name and message filters without notice.
The characters
- Hangul Filler, U+3164. A Korean filler character that Unicode counts as a letter. It shows as blank space in most fonts.
- Braille Pattern Blank, U+2800. A Braille cell with no raised dots. It is a symbol, not whitespace, so space trimming usually keeps it.
- Zero Width Space, U+200B. Has no width at all. Useful for splitting a word or link without a visible gap.
- No-Break Space, U+00A0. Looks like a normal space but keeps two words on the same line.
Finding hidden characters
Invisible characters can break code, passwords, search and spreadsheet formulas, and they often sneak in when copying from web pages or chat apps. Paste text into the checker to see each hidden character, its code and its position, then copy the text without them. The checker looks for zero width characters, direction marks, the blank characters above, soft hyphens, the byte order mark and Unicode tag characters. Your text stays in your browser.
Questions
How do I copy an invisible character?
Press Copy next to one of the characters on this page, then paste it where you need it. Raise the count to copy several at once.
What is the best invisible character for a blank name?
Try Hangul Filler (U+3164) first. Unicode counts it as a letter, so it often passes checks that reject empty names. If the app refuses it, try the Braille Pattern Blank (U+2800).
Why does the app say my name or message is empty?
Some apps remove zero width and space characters before they check the field. Use a character that has width and is not a space, like Hangul Filler or Braille Blank.
What is U+200B?
U+200B is the Zero Width Space. It is invisible, takes no room, and marks a spot where a line may break.
How do I find invisible characters in text?
Paste the text into the checker on this page. It lists each hidden character with its code and position and can copy the text without them.
Is the text I paste uploaded?
No. The checker and the copy buttons run in your browser, and the text is not sent anywhere.
